FAQ

FAQs

Q. What does DUNA stand for?
A. Digitally Unlocking Nature’s Archive

Q: What collections can I transcribe?
A: We will continually be adding new collections from the Library and Archives for transcription and tagging. See the RESEARCH tab for information on currently available collections.

Q: I made a mistake in my transcription but I've already submitted it. Can I change it?
A: It is not possible to go back to your transcription once it has been submitted, but don't worry! Transcription can be difficult so we are not expecting every submission to be perfect. For this reason, each page will be transcribed multiple times by different volunteers.

Q: What if I can't read something?
A: See the Field Guide for tips on reading handwriting, and using tags to indicate uncertainty. You can also ask questions on the Talk forum by clicking the blue Talk button once you have submitted your transcription.

Q: What will happen to data and text once it has been transcribed?
A: Once completed, the images and transcriptions will be made available online. For more information, see the RESULTS tab.

Q: Can I take part on my mobile or tablet?
A: Unfortunately DUNA is not currently available on the mobile app. We recommend using a large screen if possible, to make it easier to view the documents to be transcribed.

A. Yes, to find out more please see https://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/departments-and-staff/library-and-archives/using-the-library-and-archives.html
