A large amount of work is require to digitise the data contained in the images present in the ACMAD collection. Some of this work has already started. We have identified high quality images containing important weather data that have been digitised by second year geography students in Maynooth University. Called the CliDar Africa project, and designed by Dr. Simon Noone, it has resulted in the digitisation of nearly 2 million observations from weather stations in Guinea, the Central African Republic, and Madagascar. Students in the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa have also assisted in digitising data from these countries. The students also learn important transferable skills that they can take with them into their chosen careers.
By helping us to identify images of high quality, you will be helping us to continue the important rescue work currently being undertaken. It is hoped that many of the poor quality images can be improved on and made suitable for digitisation. For more information on the work carried out by the students please read the following paper.
