The sagebrsuh ecosystem is an ecosystem in peril: much of this habitat has been decimated by anthropogenic change over the last century. The Nature Conservancy is a leader in community organization and grassroots conservation movements. Their website has valuable information and resource for those interested in helping to conserve this ecosystem, sage-grouse and the hundreds of other species that call this habitat home.
The Patricelli lab is involved in many areas of behavioral research. Visit the lab page to learn more about acoustic pollution's effects on birds, evolutionary biology, sexual selection, awesome photos from the field and more!
The Forbey Lab and the Patricelli Lab are long time collaborators. Dr. Jennifer Sorensen Forbey has a background in pharmacology and chemistry. Her research interests include plant-animal chemical interaction and pharm-ecology. The Forbey lab in invaluable in assisting the Patricelli lab to analyze plant and fecal chemistry to answer broad system-wide questions.
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, a name recognized worldwide by all who love birds, created a one hour documentary, The Sagebrush Sea that explores the sagebrush ecosystem through the eyes of a Greater sage-grouse. Not only does the film provide a stunning visual of the ecosystem that supports hundreds of species, but it also explores the threats to sagebrush and the animals that call it home.
The Sage Grouse Initiative is a science driven effort that relies on voluntary action to drive change in conservation science. SGI aims to prevent a need for endangered species listing and works to help ranchers across the west. Their website is an excellent source of information on the birds, their habitats, the people working to help them and how you can help!
The Bureau of Land Management(BLM) office in Bishop, CA has been an amazing resource for this project. Scientists from the BLM have spent hours with students deploying camera traps, helping students to understand conservation policy, and assisting graduate students in research. The BLM is responsible for counts at leks each year and will benefit greatly from the data produced from this Zooniverse project
The US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has put together an amazing curriculum aimed at educating future generations about the Sagebrush Ecosystem. This curriculum includes lesson plans that meet the standards for grades 4-8. videos from contributors such as the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and educational poster and allows educators to get in contact with experts that are available for classroom visits.
