FAQ

Q: How long has this project been running?
A: We started working on these identifications in our lab at UCSB just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Since 2020 we've been moving the workflow online and trying to make progress virtually... but we need your help!

Q: What do I do if I make a mistake in one of the workflows?
A: Don't worry, we all make mistakes! You can either go back and change your answer, or make a post in the Talk board "Questions". Be sure to include the subject ID and describe the changes you'd like to make. When we download our data we will do quality control checks and make any needed changes. But remember, multiple people see and identify each card so it's totally fine if you make a mistake!

Q: Why can't a computer do this work?
A: Even if a machine learning algorithm made these IDs, we would still need to check its work with IDs done by responsible humans (like you!). Hopefully, the data we get from looking at these cards will help train a computer to be able to do this in the future.

Q: How can I get more information about this project?
A: Check out the 'About' tab, field guides, and tutorials. If your question isn't answered yet, please post it in the 'Questions' talk board - we'd all love to find out the answer! You can also always feel free to send questions to Caroline (owens@ucsb.edu).
