Jan Luiten van Zanden is focused on reconstructing and explaining long-term trajectories in the world economy, to better understand the deep historical roots of current day societal issues. His research addresses global issues, such as inequality, poverty and sustainability.
Dr. Rob Lenders
Assistant Professor Environmental Science, RU
Rob Lenders is an expert in the field of the (historical) ecology of reptiles, amphibians and fish, as well as the (historical) river landscape. The link between nature and landscape, and the (historical) role of man in it, has his special interest.
Prof. Dr. Joop Schaminée
Professor Eco-informatics, RU & WUR
Joop Schaminee is active in the field of vegetation and landscape ecology. His main focus is on the study of plant communities, with the emphasis on eco-informatics.
Thomas van Goethem
Postdoctoral researcher Social and Economic History, UU
Thomas van Goethem is a historical ecologist with a background in environmental and biological sciences. His main focus is on studying historical biodiversity patterns and the (anthropogenic) processes that determine them.

Christiane Vlam

Christiane Vlam is a BA Historian and Economist, currently completing a master in multidisciplinary economics. She is supporting the Athena team since June 2019.

Taco Zwaanswijk helps the team to present and publish the ATHENA project and created the visual identity of ATHENA, the templates for the portal and the animated introduction (on the About page).
