Welcome! This project recently migrated onto Zooniverse’s new architecture. For details, see here.
Christine Kourkoumelis is the leader of New Particle Search at CERN. She is an Emeritus Professor of Physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and a member of the Directorate of the Institute of Accelerating Systems and Applications(IASA). For more than 30 years she has been working in various high energy physics experiments at CERN and Fermilab (USA). She was the cο-coordinator of the ATLAS Education and Outreach Group for two years (2012-2014) during the Higgs boson discovery. She coordinated two European Outreach programmes and participated in another seven. In July 2011 she was awarded the EPS 2011 outreach prize for outstanding outreach achievement.
Dimitris Fassouliotis is a Professor at the NKUA. For more than 20 years he has participated in research activities in experimental high energy physics mainly at CERN. In ATLAS, he has mainly been involved in the discovery of the Higgs boson and the measurement of its properties, but also in the search for BSM physics. He has also participated in the construction of the muon spectrometer of the ATLAS detector and the development and commissioning of the gas Micromegas detectors for its upgrade. Since 2005, Dr Fassouliotis has been continuously participating in outreach activities in physics for high school students.
Stelios Vourakis holds an MSc in Electronic Automation with specialization in Information Technology and a Bachelor’s in Physics, both from the NKUA. Since 2006 he has worked as a researcher in a series of national- and EU-funded projects in the NKUA Informatics and Physics departments. He is the developer of the HYPATIA event display used by thousands of students worldwide during International Physics Masterclasses and various national events throughout Greece.
Stelios Angelidakis holds a PhD in experimental high energy physics, from NKUA. His research record includes the search for and study of the Higgs boson, within the context of the Standard Model and beyond, and substantial contributions to the upgrade of the Hadronic Calorimeter and the Muon Spectrometer of ATLAS. Presently, he holds a postdoctoral position at NKUA. Apart from his research activities, he has participated in various international and national European outreach programs and Masterclasses.
