** ¿Por qué se necesitan transcripciones de estos documentos? **
Las nuevas tecnologías, particularmente El Reconocimiento Optico de Caracteres (OCR) que puede convertir imágenes en textos, no reconoce textos antiguos o manuscritos debido a que este método de escritura es impredecible y no uniforme, otra dificultad es cuando se encuentra borroso o parcialmente dañado. Para poder buscar el contenido de estos libros, la escritura debe ser transcrita. Esto también crea capacidad de búsqueda para la colección en español.

** ¿Por qué es importante transcribir estos documentos? **
-Las transcripciones van a incrementar la base de datos con más información. Esto también incrementa las conexiones de investigación, facilita las búsquedas y con ello el acceso para todos.

• Este proyecto también nos permitió la digitalización de documentos por primera vez, lo que nos permitirá reducir el manejo físico e incrementar el tiempo de preservación.
• Este proyecto de transcripción creará un índice para que toda la información se pueda buscar digitalmente.
• Esta será también el primer proyecto de la colección para proporcionar materiales en español para búsqueda y acceso.

¿Que pasará con las transcripciones?
El personal de History Colorado importará la información del proyecto en la base de datos de la colección del museo y se podrá buscar en español.

¿Cómo puedo mantener un récord de mis horas de voluntariado?

** ¿Qué hacer si el texto es difícil de leer? **
Si el texto es difícil de leer intenta salir y reiniciar el sistema para encontrar otra imagen, o captura la información disponible y escribe “no se puede leer” en las secciones correspondientes.

** ¿Qué hacer con los errores o entradas en otros idiomas?**
Por favor escríbelo exactamente como está escrito (incluyendo errores ortográficos). ** No es necesario traducir al inglés, solo es necesario el texto original.**

** Cometí un error o se agotó el tiempo de espera en mi navegador. ¿Puedo regresar a la imagen que estaba transcribiendo o hacer correcciones?**
El sitio zooniverse puede ser difícil de navegar en ocasiones y desafortunadamente no te permite regresar a la imagen previamente cargada. Debido a limitaciones de diseño tampoco permite guardar contenidos y editarlos después. El uso de la plataforma durante periodos prolongados tiende a aumentar el número de errores en el sistema.

** ¿Cómo puedo incrementar el tamaño de la imagen en diferentes partes del texto?**
Puedes mover la imagen cuando está ampliada con un clic de mouse y manteniéndolo mientras mueves la imagen. También puedes hacer las secciones de texto más grandes dándole clic al icono de la esquina. Esto te permitirá ajustar el tamaño de texto que necesites.

Why do these papers need to be transcribed?
Modern technology, in particular Optical Character Recognition (OCR) which is the ability to convert images or scans into text, is not able to recognize older text or handwriting because the handwriting is unpredictable and not uniform or the text is faded or poor quality. In order to be able to search the content of these ledgers, the handwriting needs to be transcribed. This also creates searchability for the collection in Spanish.

Why is it important to transcribe these records?

• The transcriptions will augment our records with more information. This increases the research connections and the discoverability and access for everyone.
• This project also allowed us to digitize the papers for the first time which allows us to decrease physical handling and increase preservation.
• This transcription project will create an index to make all the information searchable digitally.
• This will also be the first collections project providing Spanish language access and searchability to a collection.

What will happen to the transcriptions?
History Colorado staff will import the project information into the museum collections database and it becomes searchable in Spanish.

Technical Questions

What if the image is too hard to read?
If you find that the text is difficult to read, you can exit and then restart to get another image or enter what you can and then say "unable to read" for applicable entries.

What about mistakes or other languages?
Please record what you read exactly as it is written or recorded (even for misspelled words). We do not need an English translation--just the text in the original language.

I made a mistake or my browser timed out. Can I get back to that image and finish or fix my work?
The zooniverse site is a bit tricky sometimes and unfortunately it does not let you go back to the same document after you click off of the page (or if your screen times out). Unfortunately, due to design limitations you cannot save work and go back to it. Longer time periods might mean bugs or timing out (another thing we cannot really control)

How do I zoom to different parts of the text?
To make the font larger to read you can scroll through the image while it is zoomed in. Move the image after zooming so that you can see the whole page. If the scroll icon is on the image then you can click/hold and move the image where you want it. You can also make the text boxes bigger by clicking on the corner icon. This will help you adjust the text box to the size you want.
