Welcome back! Help test our new data and workflow in preparation for our search of PHAST data for the Andromeda Galaxy.

Also, this project recently migrated onto Zooniverse’s new architecture. For details, see here.

FAQ

Am I doing it right?

Yes, you’re probably doing great! Once you’ve gone through the tutorial, classified a few images, and looked through the field guide, you have all the training you need to help with this project. The best advice: practice makes perfect!

Can I go back and change my answer?

If you miss a cluster by accident, hit “Done” too soon, or otherwise wish you could get a re-do on a particular image: don’t worry. It is important to remember that many people will view every image. We combine everyone’s classifications together to create the final catalog, and through this collective effort participants make up for any individual errors that might occur along the way. The more people classify an image, the better the result will become!

What's a synthetic cluster?

As we introduced on the Research page, synthetic clusters are realistic-looking groups of stars inserted into the search images to help determine the properties of clusters that can be detected and those that are missed. As clusters decrease in mass, become large and spread out, or the density of stars in a search image increases, clusters become too difficult to reliably identify. The important thing: measuring and understanding our ability to detect clusters, also known as the completeness of the cluster catalog. If you correctly identify a synthetic cluster, we will let you know using a pop-up message.

What's that thing?

If you find something you can’t explain or looks interesting, be sure to bring it up on the Talk site. Consider adding a hashtag label to subjects (for example: #weird), and check out hashtags that other volunteers are using.

What should I do if I have a question?

If you have a question that isn't answered in this FAQ, and you can't find an answer in the Field Guide or on the Research page, please head over to the Talk message boards to ask the research team and your fellow volunteers for help.
