About Local Group Cluster Search

Star clusters are collections of hundreds to millions of stars that were born together out of the same cloud of gas. These objects are powerful tools for understanding how stars form and evolve, as well as tracking the growth of galaxies. But before we can unlock these secrets, we need the help of Citizen Scientists to find the clusters. Here we hunt for star clusters in four galaxies in the Local Group, our very own galactic neighborhood: the Andromeda galaxy, the Triangulum galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud, and the Small Magellanic Cloud. We use imaging from the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) on the Hubble Space Telescope and the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) at the Blanco 4-m at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO). Help us identify these star clusters in order to help us learn about star formation and the formation history of galaxies in the Milky Way's backyard!
