Finished! Looks like this project is out of data at the moment!

Thanks for the drawings! We are all done with this project. Stay tuned for more results. Meanwhile why not try other galaxy related projects like Galaxy Zoo

New images (Nov. 2017)

Now that the last of the MaNGA images have been processed by Galaxy Zoo we are ready to put the last of the images into Galaxy Zoo: 3D. Along with these new galaxies we have also included some galaxies from the the first batch of images that need some more classifications to be finished. In total ~30,000 images have been uploaded for identifying center and star positions, ~4,500 for bar marking, and ~6,500 for spiral arm marking.

April 2018 Update: You are amazing! All foreground stars and galaxy centres have been marked. Thank you for your contributions. We could still use help drawing on bars, and spirals. We know these tasks are a bit more challenging, and we really appreciate any time you spend on it.

Using the MaNGA data

Over the past few weeks we have been matching your drawn shapes up with MaNGA data and creating stacked spectra and BPT diagrams (used to indicate regions of star formation and AGN activity) based on galaxy features:

First Look

Our first set of data (the galaxies already observed by MaNGA) were completed in just under three days! We have stated the data analysis for your classifications and here are some early results:

Results from the beta

Using the classifications taken during our beta trial for this project we have been able to create preliminary "masks" for some bars and spiral arms. Although only a small number of people classified each galaxy during the beta we are still able to create reasonable masks.
