Great Salt Lake Institute at Westminster College
Great Salt Lake Institute at Westminster College (GSLI) strives to connect people to Great Salt Lake through research and education. Our undergraduate students of many disciplines complete research that is translated into educational opportunities for college students, K-12 students and teachers, as well as the general community. All aspects of the PELI Project have undergraduate fingers all over it!
Utah Division of Wildlife Resources
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Great Salt Lake Ecosystem Program (UDWR/GSLEP) monitors and manages the avian and aquatic life at Great Salt Lake. By studying these populations over time, researchers can learn about our changing ecosystems. The GSLEP has been monitoring pelicans for over 20 years and is the powerhouse behind the PELI project.
Tracy Aviary
Tracy Aviary is a Salt Lake City based aviary which houses many local and exotic species of birds. The aviary promotes education and conservation through several research grants including the initial funding to start the PELI Project!
Great Salt Lake Audubon, a chapter of the National Audubon Society, was founded in 1912 and is the oldest conservation organization in Utah. This volunteer organization strives to meet its mission through volunteer opportunities, seminars, educational field trips, urban riparian restoration and informative general meetings with guest presenters. They also support local research efforts such as the PELIproject.
MesoWest
MesoWest, located at the University of Utah, collects data from weather stations located across the country. The MesoWest group also has several weather stations deployed around the Great Salt Lake, including one on Gunnison Island. MesoWest maintains the live PELIcam on Gunnison Island and uses the weather data to forecast local weather.
