New data on Tuesdays and Fridays!
During the winter months there is more inclement weather at our observing site. Due to this images will be more infrequent.
Also, this project recently migrated onto Zooniverse’s new architecture. For details, see here.
After data has been processed through Zooniverse our team compiles a list of all of the subjects that exceed a certain threshold of positive responses. These objects are then measured by hand to verify the object and to generate accurate enough measurements to submit to the MPC. This process will take about a week from the completion of a data set on Zooniverse. After the initial MPC submission it can take several months for the discovery to become official this is because several measurements of the object from different dates and or observatories need to occur before an orbit can be effectively calculated.
Participants can expect to see data that was taken around 1 month ago or newer.
The images for this program have been processed by Pan-STARRS and had the majority of objects identified. Our machine learning tool then processes this data and we eliminate any detections that have been measured by Pan-STARRS or are already known asteroids. Other than the initial observations done by Pan-STARRS this data will be exclusive to Zooniverse.
Yes! We also host monthly campaigns where teams of citizen scientists look through additional data. In these campaigns each team has access to their own unique data. More information on how to participate can be found on our website: iasc.cosmosearch.org
New images will become available twice weekly. Uploads are expected to occur on Tuesdays and Fridays, but may vary due to weather and other factors that can impact image taking.
Yes! If you fill out our form here your name will be added to any reports submitted to the Minor Planet Center for subjects you correctly identified. Please be aware data collected offsite of Zooniverse is subject to a separate privacy policy. You can find ours here.
