Finished! Looks like this project is out of data at the moment!
Thank you for your efforts! We've completed our project! To browse other active projects that still need your classifications, check out zooniverse.org/projects
Your contributions would help NASA to make future Mars rovers smarter and safer! Every label you make will be used for training neural network models to identify driving hazard for rovers. If the research goes well, the algorithm trained by your labels may be deployed on future Mars rovers!
Yes! We are currently developing a terrain classifier for the ground operation of Curiosity and Perseverance Rovers and your labels may be used to train it in the future! Although this classifier will not be on-board, it may help the rover planners at NASA to make a safe judgement on how to drive Mars rovers!
Yes, of course! We designed this project such that any 4th grade students can perform if properly instructed. Making a real contribution to NASA's Mars rovers would be a highly inspiring experience for students!
All the Martian images on this project are published on the Planetary Data System, along with many other datasets from various spacecraft across the Solar System.
