The Team
Kate Boyd is Director of Digital Research Services and Collections at the University of South Carolina. Kate graduated from the University of Michigan with an MLIS in 1999. She worked for two years at the Library of Congress as part of the National Digital Library where she helped create the first international digital collection, Meeting of Frontiers. In 2001, she was hired as a Research and Instruction Librarian at the University of South Carolina. In 2004, she helped establish and managed the Digital Collections Department, making rare and special library materials available online. In 2007, she was a founding member of the South Carolina Digital Library, a state-wide consortium. In 2019, she helped establish the Digital Research Services and Collections Department (DRSC) for the Libraries. Kate supports the Digital Collections team in their efforts to make accessible and improve the discoverability online of the Library's rich and unique Special Collections. She is excited to work with supporters and communities through Zooniverse and USC to further these endeavors.
Katie Hoskins is Digital Collections Librarian at the University of South Carolina. She coordinates the digitization, metadata, preservation, and online access of rare books and manuscripts from the numerous special collections libraries on campus, as well as institutions across the SC Midlands that participate in the South Carolina Digital Library. Before joining Digital Collections in 2023, Katie served as Cataloging Librarian at the USC Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections. Her interests include cataloging and metadata policy, especially as it relates to increasing access to rare materials, and equity in cataloging. She received her MLIS from USC in 2019.
Heather Potter is the Assistant Director of the South Caroliniana Library at the University of South Carolina, where she oversees a team of curators responsible for oral history, political papers, university archives, and outreach. She works to build, preserve, and promote access to special collections materials documenting South Carolina’s history and culture. Before joining the University of South Carolina, Potter spent over a decade at the Filson Historical Society in Louisville, Kentucky where she served as Curator of Photographs and Prints before becoming Curator of Manuscripts in 2024, leading stewardship of the institution’s largest and most significant collection. Earlier in her career, she was Project Archivist for the Kentucky Folklife Program at the Kentucky Historical Society, documenting and preserving community-based cultural heritage. She holds a BA in History from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, and an MLS with an emphasis in Archives from Indiana University Bloomington.
