Finished! Looks like this project is out of data at the moment!
We encourage you to use the message boards to engage with us!
We are asking you to identify areas on personnel cards to help us categorize them.
In 2017, we worked with a transcription service to transcribe the written information on the cards. At that time, however, not all punched areas were coded. This project will serve two purposes; 1) to serve as a quality control assessment and 2) to complete the coding of the cards. Once all work is completed, we will freely share all zooniverse data (both raw and cleaned up) with the scholarly community. We will also construct a freely available relational database for people to look up cards by any data point (name, gender, religion, etc.)
Invented by Leo S. Robinson in 1915 the segregation system allowed for the classification and sorting of information. The YMCA used these cards to account for the explosive growth of personnel brought under its banner during the war effort.
