As part of the RiverWatchers project, a dedicated group of Citizen Scientists will regularly walk the same sections along selected rivers to monitor changes in the natural environment. After each observation, they will clean the area to establish a baseline. This ongoing effort will help track trends in litter accumulation over time.

River Watchers

Participants are invited to verify the accuracy of predictions made by Computer Vision models.

There are several ways to contribute. You may choose to respond to straightforward Yes/No validation questions, or engage more deeply by examining the original images to identify and tag objects that may have been missed by the detection algorithms.

The nature of the task will vary depending on the complexity of object recognition in each case. Participants are encouraged to engage with all available task types to support comprehensive model evaluation.

Some tasks will also include data collected via drones. This is part of the RiverWatchers initiative, which operates in parallel with the WasteWatchers project (https://blog.vito.be/remotesensing/wastewatchers) —an effort that uses drone imagery to monitor riverbanks.
