Supernova Spectra

Why Do Many Supernovae Have the Same Absorption Line Between 7200 and 7500 Å?

Below are a few example spectra that all have the same "weird" absorption feature at about 7200 Å:

This absorption is due to oxygen, BUT it is from oxygen that is in the Earth's atmosphere. Most of the time we are able to correct for this effect, but depending on the telescope used to obtain the observations that is not always possible. If you see this feature, please ignore it, as it has nothing to do with the SN.
