This archive and its contents are field recordings and are not for sale, or for redistribution. While the recordings and documents contained here may have only personal value, we would prefer that they not be taken out of context. Thank you for respecting the rights of the people who made these recordings and wrote the songs, instrumentals, spoken word pieces and articles collected here. This archive is dedicated to all the people who preserve the experience of live filk music, but most of all to Harold Stein and Chris "Keris" Croughton.
Filk music grew up at science fiction conventions and became a wide-ranging, genre-defying set of songs, known and loved around the globe. Filk is recorded and sold, but also exists as part of a folk tradition, where it is sung live at science fiction conventions. This archive is an attempt to document live singing done at "open circles" at filk conventions as they were recorded by a number of different recording engineers. Quality of clips may vary.
The goal is to accurately identify to singer, the song, and any other participants on the track. If the track doesn't contain singing, but has other material, such as storytelling, joking, or making observations, we'd like to know that too, especially if you think you can identify the speaker.
