Questions

Can I take part in the project even if I don't know these animals?

Of course you can! I advise you to read the tutorial provided to help you understand the steps to take for each image, as well as the field guide, which will give you a brief description and image of each species of interest. Another advise: use the demo mode to practice first, it's fun and you can have an example for each species and his category!

Do I need to note whether the animal is male, female or juvenile?

No, the age or sex of the individual is not important for our AI model to recognize the animal. We've only added the characteristics of each sex in the description of each animal to help you recognize the individual.

Where can I ask my questions regarding the project?

You can go directly to the “Talk” tab and choose between the four talk boards to ask your question. One is for questions related to the project (if you encounter difficulties, if you have suggestions for improvements...), one for the questions addressed to the researchers (technical questions, desire to participate more...), one for project announcements (only team members can communicate on this channel) and one for specific remarks about an animal.

If I don't know what species is in the photo, what should I do?

Even if you're not sure (and it can happen, some images aren't easy to recognize!), it's more helpful to us if you choose the category you think the animal belongs to and select "I don't know". The button "other", under the vegetation option, is used as a last resort, if you really have no idea what species it might be and to which group it may belong.
Indeed, if several people indicate the same category, we can at least be sure of the group to which the animal belongs.

I don't understand the organization of the field guide?

A header is placed above each category, with a drawing of an animal from the category in the small dot on the left. The categories are placed in the same order as in the task, and within each category, the species have been placed in alphabetical order.
