FAQ

What is this project about?

This is the result of one year of work for a University Master's project in Physics and Astronomy. We aim to explore alternative data analysis methods which will, hopefully, have an impact on the way we approach science and make this field more accessible to visually impaired individuals.

Are these sounds already existing in nature?

No, they are a simple 'visualization' tool, like traditional graphs.

How can I help?

We are looking to determine the usefulness of auditory graphs. Your help associating the sound to the corresponding picture will help us understand their applicability.

Why is there an 'ABOUT YOU' page?

Sound perception and pattern recognition are extremely subjective. As such, there are a lot of parameters involved when it comes to understanding the underlying patterns of the sonifications. Therefore, we aim to determine whether age group, musical knowledge, etc. are substantial factors in their applicability and possibly, ensure future work will take these findings into account. All the information collected is completely anonymous, but if you are not comfortable sharing, please select the 'prefer not to say' button.

I have a question and/or I found something interesting, what should I do?

If you have anything you would like to share, please leave a comment on the TALK page of the project.
