Q. What do the different parts of the image file name mean?

A. To access information about the image press the "metadata" button underneath the image you are annotating. Species Name is the scientific (Latin) name of the species following the binomial nomenclature rules. The first part of the name identifies the genus the species belongs to and the second part the species within the genus. Barcode is a unique identifier for the specimen used for making the picture. By adding "http://www.botanicalcollections.be/specimen/" in front of this barcode in your browser you will automatically be directed to the virtual herbarium of Meise Botanic Garden. Or just copy the entire link from the Specimen URL field into your browser. The Collector ID code refers to a specific collector or a mission by whom or during which the specimen with this particular barcode was collected. For example, LOUIJ refers to Jean Laurent Prosper Louis who was a Belgian professor in Botany and very active in collecting plant material from Congo during the Belgian colonial period. Collector number is the number the collector gives to the specimen, it starts at 1 and ends at... . For making the pictures of the stomata we took 5 leaves from each specimen each, that is what the leaf refers to. Of each leaf we took 3 pictures, every picture represents a viewfield of the microscope, hence field.
