Watch a 10 second clip taken from our thermal drone camera. If you see monkeys in the clip tell us. Because we use thermal cameras the monkeys glow brightly compared to the forest. They will look like bright white or yellow blobs, and they will probably be moving.

With a thermal camera animals glow like stars and galaxies, so we can use astronomical techniques to find them. But to tell different species apart we need to teach the computer what they look like first.

About Spotting Spider Monkeys

This British Science Week we’re asking for your help to find and tag spider monkeys in thermal images of the forest canopy. By tagging these images, we can train an algorithm to spot monkeys automatically, so that ecologists can not only protect them, but also their habitat.
