FAQ

Here is a list of frequently asked questions:

I just can't decide. Why isn't there an "I don't know" option?

We need you to make your best guess. Humans are really good at pattern recognition, so your first guess is likely the best answer. Other people will review the same video, so it's okay if you make mistakes. Having several people review the same video and offer their best guesses for the classification is how researchers figure out what species are recorded in the video and if the video meets quality requirements.

What should I do if I see a unique animal and there is no option to classify it?

If you see animals that are not included in the identification options, select the "Nothing here" choice and use the talk button to leave a comment about what you saw. This helps flag videos so that we can include the option in the list of choices.

How can I sort my favourite images or films under a given topic?

You can organise clips in an existing collection or start a new collection. Once you created a collection or added the clip to an existing one, you can click the tab "Collect" in the main menu and start a conversation around what you saw.

Why is the quality of movies relatively low

Underwater images are usually of poor quality when compared with images and movies taken on land land. This is often because of water disturbances and unfortunately, there is not much we can do about it.

The species never fully appears in the video, how do I record this?

If the entire animal is never fully recorded in the video, please select the second that captures most of the animal's body.

How do I start a conversation/discussion?

There are 2 ways to have a discussion. First, you can start discussions associated with images/films (explained under FAQ 3 above). Second, you can start a discussion in our "Talk" section.
