Blue blobs are like tiny blue oases in the enormous red desert of a galaxy cluster.
mike.jones.astroWhat are extreme galaxies and where did they come from? Questions like these are what Blobs and Blurs: Extreme Galaxies in Clusters hope to answer. We're particularly interested in two types of extreme galaxies: blue blobs and diffuse galaxies. However, we can't properly answer these questions right now because there aren't enough known examples of these objects. Furthermore, the unique appearance and faintness of each one makes it challenging to accurately identify them with computer algorithms. This is where you come in! Using images from the Fornax Deep Survey and Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey, we need your help to examine the Fornax and Virgo galaxy clusters in order to find more of these mysterious "blobs and blurs."
