The team involved in this project are mainly based in Edinburgh and work for the Met office.
Citizen science projects such as this are currently the most successful method for digitising older handwritten journals but also looking at handwritten text recognition (HTR) models which may be useful for data in a more regular tabular form.
Malcolm Allan is a Climate Database Specialist at the UK Met Office. Responsible for increasing the amount of historical data stored in the climate database and investigating new methods to digitise the written records .
