About MB07 - The Insects of the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência

With this project, we aim to accelerate the digitization of the insect collection of the Museu Natural de História Natural e da Ciência, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal.
This first set of specimens presented here belong to a collection which was originally compiled by José Passos de Carvalho (http://triplov.com/passos/j_passos_de_carvalho/index.htm) and was recently donated to the museum and integrated in the insect collection. It is composed mostly of butterflies and moths.
A digital database is not currently available for this collection, so we are currently on the process od digitizing the specimens and their associated data.
This project has two distinct workflows, one oriented for digitizing label information and another oriented for people knowledgable on moth systematics, that we hope can contribute with new systematic data or verify the existing data.
In the future, this data will be made public on online repositories and will contribute to our knowledge on insect biodiversity.
