Jason is a Naturalist for Dubuque County Conservation where he leads the Snapshot Dubuque Project. As an environmental educator, Jason is excited to engage students and the general public in wildlife monitoring. He previously assisted with another Zooniverse project called Wildcam Gorongosa in Mozambique while serving as the Research Manager in Gorongosa National Park. Jason has a B.S. in Biology from the University of Iowa and a Masters in Teaching from Xavier University of Louisiana.
Tim and Lori Ollendick are Snapshot Dubuque volunteers. Lori is a leading local advocate for making natural areas accessible to the disabled community. She contributes to the project’s technical aspects, while Tim handles field maintenance of the trail cameras. Together, they review project photos and identify the wildlife captured. In their spare time, Lori and Tim enjoy wildlife photography. Locals often know where Lori has been exploring nature by the distinctive tracks left by her wheelchair.
Tom Davis is a retired Biology faculty member from Loras College in Dubuque, IA. He taught several environmental biology/environmental education courses including a Bird Biology course for many years. He has taught Field Ecology classes in Florida, the Greater Yellowstone area, and led four trips with students to Costa Rica. He did research on Prothonotary Warblers and Map Turtle eggs along the Mississippi River in Dubuque. He helps to sort trail cam pictures from Dubuque County for the project.
Ian Bartelt is a volunteer on the Snapshot Dubuque County team. Ian is an attorney at O'Connor & Thomas, P.C. Ian is passionate about wildlife, conservation, and environmental education. Ian assists with the Snapshot Dubuque County project by maintaining trail cameras. In his free time, Ian enjoys volunteering at the Swiss Valley Nature Center and performing in community theater in Dubuque, Iowa.
Dubuque County Conservation staff work to install and maintain the camera grid within the various conservation areas of Dubuque County. The Education Team works to engage volunteers and the public with Snapshot Dubuque in order to observe and monitor wildlife within our conservation areas.
With funding from the Friends of the Dubuque County Conservation Board, trail cameras and equipment were purchased for areas managed under Dubuque County Conservation.
With funding from the Friends of the Mines of Spain, trail cameras and equipment were purchased for the Mines of Spain recreation area.
Iowa DNR manage the Mines of Spain recreation area and offer guidance for placement of cameras within the area.
Green Iowa Americorps members help to maintain the cameras in the field and get the images uploaded.
Staff and volunteers with Snapshot Wisconsin have shared invaluable guidance and examples for getting Snapshot Dubuque started.
