EMODnet Biology
The "digging up the ocean's past" project is an integral part of the larger EMODnet Biology project. ne of the primary objectives of this initiative is the recovery of historical biodiversity data. EMODnet Biology offers free access to distribution data of marine species from various European regional seas. Once these historical observations are digitized, they will be accessible through this project, where they will follow the principles of being Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR). EMODnet Biology operates within the European Marine Observation and Data Network, which is funded by the European Union. It is closely linked to the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) and the European Ocean Biodiversity Information System (EurOBIS).
