The parent project of this work, The Prairie Project, has an exciting education and outreach component that offers activities for educators and students, the general public, and future natural resources professionals.
How does The Prairie Project promote teacher and faculty development?
We created a certificate program for faculty and teacher development. In the program, educators create high-impact learning experiences for K-12 and undergraduate students. The program aims to build community among educators and help them become agents of change who bring relevant science and technology to the classroom. We also collaborate with universities and conservation organizations to develop education programs for students and the general public. Activities include public lectures, prescribed burn tours at field labs, social media outreach, and citizen science projects (like this one!).
Why is citizen science important to The Prairie Project?
Citizen science activities connect students and the public with real scientific research. This citizen science project aligns with The Prairie Project’s research and education goals by simultaneously aiding our investigations while teaching others about land management and conservation.
