FAQ

Questions about images:

There are two or more images on the same mount
You should treat them as one item (the mount). Include any information that's specific to single images in the Description field, going in clockwise order starting from the top left.

There is no photo on my item
Is there information you can transcribe still? If you have information on the city/town, building, please fill out the fields that you can - otherwise leave the field blank.

Questions about text:

Books, articles or pamphlets
Sometimes rather than a photo you will see the first page of an article, or a pamphlet. If it includes information like city, building and architect name please transcribe them. You can mention the title of the article and/or publication in the Description field.

Do I need to transcribe diagrams
No, you don't need to describe handwritten diagrams in the transcription.

Should I correct any spelling mistakes?
Yes. If there is an obvious spelling mistake, please correct it as you type.

What if I can't read one of the words?
If you're unsure about a word, please skip it. Please do not write "unsure, "unclear", "???", etc.

What if the country or city name is now different?
If you know this to be the case, please write down the current name. There may be times in which the historic building or area now belongs to another country or region, as boundaries/countries shift over time. Using the current name makes our data more useful (and easily searchable) and the original country name will remain on the mount.

Can I choose a certain building or city to transcribe?
Unfortunately not, images will appear in random order.
