We would like to thank all citizen scientists who contributed to this project on the Zooniverse platform. The Manatee Chat project continues on our platform (cetalingua.com). Please check it out if you are interested.

The Team

Natalija Lace is a Principal investigator for Cetalingua Project. Natalija received her PhD from the University of Southern Mississippi and her main interests include form and function of marine mammal acoustic communication. You can read more about Natalija's research here.

Data Collection Site
The data for this project was collected over a period of several years at the Lowry Park Zoo David A. Straz, Jr. Manatee Critical Care Center, Tampa, FL, USA. Lowry Park Manatee Hospital cares for sick, injured, and orphaned manatees and all manatees at the hospital are eventually released back into the wild.

Cetalingua Project is focused on decoding marine mammal communication with citizen science and deep learning. It seeks to involve citizen scientists in marine mammal bioacoustics and behavioral research and uses a novel approach by providing practical and focused training for citizen scientists along with online classes, quizzes, and new research updates.
