A community driven, collaborative approach to wildlife research allows for the exchange of knowledge that creates urban environmental stewardship. The goal of this project is not only to gain data about pollution, but also create urban ecology support.

About Rhythms of the Night

Hello, my name is Christopher Blume and I am a graduate student at UMBC - just outside of Baltimore. For my graduate research project, I am using native species of bats to monitor levels of heavy metal contamination around the city. To do this, I first need to know which species of bats are around and where. I am setting up passive acoustic monitors to capture the echolocation of bats in potential research plots. I am looking for citizen scientists to help go through the data and identify the species I capture on the microphone.
