Our goal with this project is to train an AI to be able to create a map of what is in the ocean around the island of Aruba. This includes mapping living and dead coral reefs, seagrass beds, and sand/rock to understand and track the changes that are happening in our coastal waters. Ultimately, this is part of a project to develop replicable, fast, and cheap methods for mapping reefs on small islands and coastal areas. Our hope is to share these methods as broadly as possible, and to develop them further with the open source community. This work will be published on our wiki and github, and with further success will be submitted for scientific publication.
