Where did these photos come from?
These images were collected from shallow Aruban seas using a GoPro attached to a Trident underwater remotely operated vehicle starting in January 2019.
What are you doing with them?
We're asking you to help us classify them so we can put them together to make a map of what's on the seafloor around Aruba. In the longer term, we're trying to develop a way for other people in other coastal communities and islands around the world to map local reefs and seagrass, in an easy, cheap, and useful way.
What if I get it wrong?
Don't worry! There are more people looking at the same photos as you and helping to make sure that together, we get it right.
What happens next?
We're going to take the classified images and feed them into an AI model we made using Tensorflow, which will use your input to learn how to identify different types of seafloor cover, and eventually be able to make these maps automatically.
What if I have more questions?
If you have other questions about our project head over to the 'talk' forum. There you can ask for help or discuss photos with the our researchers and fellow Zooniverse members! You are encouraged to send an email to tony@metabolic.nl to share your experience on this project and to make any other general enquiries.
