Messing around with FITS files

If you want to learn a little about how we use FITS files for this project, you can install the SAOImage DS9 software. This tool allows you to import FITS files and play around with them. You can get FITS image cutouts from many places, but this project has FITS files from Blast. For any Blast transient (for example, this merger), you can copy/paste the Blast right ascension and declination into the Pan-STARRS cutout tool. Then just select any Pan-STARRS cutout, download it, and open it in DS9. If you cant see anything, try and change the scale to log. For creating three-color images within DS9, check out their Gallery page.

Supernova Discoveries from the Rubin Observatory

The Rubin Observatory is starting to discover hundreds of thousands of new supernovae that we hope to eventually include in this project; for more on being part of exciting Rubin discoveries, check out their citizen science page.
