When will I see my transcription in the ECDA? The process of ingesting ads into the ECDA requires matching transcriptions to images of the ads as well as metadata entry. This process usually involved ingesting more than one ad at a time, so there may be some time between transcription submission and ingestion as we await a larger pool of transcription.
How does creatively responding to ads contribute to history? A significant part of this project is focused on how we can use speculation when thinking about archival materials. Because the ads are so brief (though filled with detail) there are many instances where a reader is left to imagine what might have happened to the runaway or who they might have been running away with. We invite users to record these instances of critical imagination as it helps to jumpstart the process of recovering and reimagining the life of a runaway enslaved person
