Welcome! This project recently migrated onto Zooniverse’s new architecture. For details, see here.
Why are there photos without animals ?
The camera traps are triggered by motion sensors. Sometimes, a leaf moving in the wind or a fast-moving animal might set it off without leaving a visible trace. That’s where your help is crucial — reviewing large volumes of images helps us find the valuable ones more efficiently !
Do I need experience to identify animals ?
Not at all! Anyone can help. Just tell us whether an animal is visible or not. You're saving us a lot of time, and we’re very grateful.
What is the purpose of this data ?
It helps us build a list of species living in the area, which can then inform local conservation plans and policy decisions.
Where are the photos taken ?
All images come from Saint-Julien-Chapteuil and Queyrières, across different habitats like forests, rivers, hamlets, and open areas.
Will the data be made public ?
Yes, all collected data is sent to the INPN (National Inventory of Natural Heritage), which manages biodiversity and geodiversity records in France and its overseas territories.
Does the same animal need to appear in every photo to be counted ?
No, each photo is reviewed independently. If an animal appears in one image, it's recorded.
Can I correct a mistake if I misidentify something ?
Unfortunately, you can’t go back to edit previous answers — but don’t worry! Every photo is reviewed by multiple people, so errors are balanced out by correct responses from others.
Can I see how many photos I’ve classified ?
Yes!
o Log in to your Zooniverse account
o Click your username in the top-right corner and select "Profile"
o Go to the "Your Stats" tab
o You’ll see your classification stats for this and other Zooniverse projects
How can I talk about a photo with others ?
Use the discussion forum linked to each project page.
What if I have a question not listed here ?
Click "Discussion" at the top of the Zooniverse project page. You’ll find questions from other users, and if yours isn’t answered, you can start a new thread under the "Help!" section. Our moderators and experienced volunteers check in regularly and will be happy to help.
