This project monitors wadis (dry river beds) for flooding, to support the delivery of humanitarian aid to hard-to-reach areas of sub-Saharan Africa. We want to monitor wadis for any signs of flooding of specific wadis in the Sudan and Eastern Chad region.
As the rainy season begins in July and continues through to September, we will periodically check wadis for signs of flooding. We will ask if the wadi is passible, meaning there is no flooding. If the wadi has partially flooded, we will ask you to classify the wadi as passible with restrictions, and if the wadi is completely flooded, we ask you to mark the wadi as impassible.
This project will only monitor if a wadi is flooded. We are not interested in classifying any other attributes in this dataset. Please refer to the 'Out of Scope' section of the field guide for more information on this.
This data will help us to monitor the flooding of wadis over time. We plan to give this information directly to humanitarian organisations, who will use the data while planning aid routes. Over the long term, the data will help us to understand which locations flood, and how long the flooding lasts for; which could give us insights into wadi flooding patterns.
