How can traditional/indigenous food systems (production, processing and consumption) contribute to nutritious food and reduce food insecurity in Africa?
Researchers need your help to discover traditional/indigenous production, processing and consumption practices and integration into modern food production efforts in Africa.

We are excited to involve volunteers in our research. With your help we can begin to capture, document and share African indigenous food system knowledge for promoting sustainable nutritious food production, processing and consumption in Africa

About African Indigenous Knowledge (AIK-M)

African Indigenous Knowledge (AIK) refers to tacit knowledge held in different languages, cultures and skills that drive food production, preservation and consumption for more than 80% of citizens in Africa.
AIK is innovative and unique among local and subsistence smallholder farmers for sustainable food production and enhancing biodiversity and natural resources in many poor, rural societies. Yet, the documentation and dissemination of AIK remains a big challenge confronting librarians and other information professionals in Africa, with the risk of losing AIK.
We are on a mission to capture, document and share AIK through an interactive and open digital infrastructure, to promote learning and sustainable and nutritious food production and consumption.
We hope this project will be useful for local populations, research and policy-makers, and it could lead to transformative innovation in the food system, creating a fundamental shift in the way the UK/Global North supports sustainable, modern food production efforts in Africa.
