About usctPensionFilesTestProject

This project focuses on historical pension records of United States Colored Troops (USCT) veterans. These documents include affidavits, medical reports, pension declarations, and correspondence, often written by hand and difficult to read.

Each task shows a single document image alongside an AI-generated transcription. Your role is to carefully compare the text and correct any errors so the transcription exactly matches the original document. This includes spelling, punctuation, names, dates, and formatting.

Some documents also contain key information such as people, locations, and military units. Accurate transcription helps preserve this information and makes it searchable for historians, researchers, and families tracing ancestry.

Some experience of reading cursive is required. Work slowly, focus on matching the text precisely, and leave unclear words as best as you can interpret them.
