Rob van HaarlemIn the 17th and 18th centuries, French soldiers meticulously surveyed and documented the city of Maastricht (The Netherlands). They then used this information to develop a detailed scale model, or relief plan, of Maastricht as a tool for planning military strategy. With a scale model of the city on hand, the French military they knew exactly where to seek cover during a siege, or where to improve the fortifications. In 2018, the last remaining scale model of Maastricht was scanned by the University of Florence to be made into a 3D model. However, this scan is not useable for a public presentation. This unique piece of history must be preserved, seen and shared. This is not possible without your help! Put yourself in the shoes of a French soldier and explore the secrets of this 18th century scale model.
