About The Plastic Tide

Dear Citizen Scientists and Zooniverse members,

Hi everyone, this is Ellie - Mission Director and Co-Founder of The Plastic Tide (and subject of several images that you may have been tagging me in! #waveatellie)

Thank you so much to all of you for your time and amazing participation into this initiative. We have been absolutely blown away by the dedication, spirit and enthusiasm you have all given this important project, and for the hard work and time you have all generously donated.
The Plastic Tide team has had to make some decisions over the past few months related to the viability of the charity. As it is structured today, there is a major lack of financing hindering the progress of its mission and impact.
The team has therefore decided to shift the mission of the new charity to community-based actions, such as beach cleaning coordination and community outreach, which means that The Plastic Tide as it exists today will no longer operate.
Please be reassured that the work done collectively by The Plastic Tide and our wonderful volunteers (you!) has been tremendously valuable and will continue to benefit many projects as several teams across the world can benefit from the data you have donated, as the tagged images are freely accessible.
We thank you again for having make this adventure a great one to be part of, and for your continuous support.
If you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to contact Ellie Mackay on ellie.worldwide@gmail.com (Please note the Plastic Tide email address will cease to work in the next few months so please do make sure to reply to Ellie on the above address with any questions).
Many thanks again and wishing you all the best for a fabulous ongoing future in citizen science!

All the best,
The Plastic Tide team
