Results obtained so far

All the historical Yearbooks have been successfully digitised. A big THANK YOU to all the citizen scientists who took part in this activity! In the next few months, we will check the digitizations and will release the dataset. The new dataset will be made freely available to scientists and citizens. This new dataset will enrich previous data recovery efforts performed at the national scale to retrieve hydrological information.

Previous data recovery projects

A first data recovery project allowed to retrieve peak floods measured by 631 gauging stations from 1911 up to 2016. This work led to the release of the "Catalogo delle Piene dei Corsi d'acqua Italiani" (Claps et al., 2020a, 2020b, 2020c). A second project allowed to enrich the discharge information by releasing FOCA (Italian FlOod and Catchment Atlas), a quality-controlled database of floods and catchment descriptors in Italy (Claps et al., 2024). Hydrometric information derived from "Catalogo delle Piene dei Corsi d'acqua Italiani" is here complemented by several geomorphological, climatological, extreme rainfall, land cover and soil-related catchment attributes.
