Percent completeWelcome to Snapshot Safari, the latest project from the UMN Lion Center. Thank you for helping us identify the animals in these photos--this is an invaluable service to researchers and conservation managers throughout eastern and southern Africa! ~Sarah Huebner
shuebner729Associated Private Nature Reserves (APNR) is an alliance of privately owned game reserves that share a boundary with Kruger National Park, an iconic conservancy that has prohibited hunting since the late 1890s. Reserves in the APNR have allowed the fences separating their land from the national park to be taken out so that wildlife are free to roam throughout the entire area. This makes for a very interesting natural experiment as we gauge how animals utilize the space of Kruger NP and the APNR during wet and dry seasons. Camera traps in this region will provide unprecedented access to help ecologists understand the demographics, temporal distribution patterns, and spatial partitioning of wildlife populations living in this expansive protected area.
