Finished! Looks like this project is out of data at the moment!
The purpose of this research is to ascertain if, and to what extent, visitors images of heritage sites can be used for conservation purposes. We want to see wether we can extract valuble conservation data, such as colour information, scale and erosion to help with condition assessments of the monuments. In this specific project we want to track the levels of water-logging at Machrie Moor. As the climate has changed in Scotland it is likely this monument has been underwater a lot more. This is something that should be monitored in case action is needed to protect the site in the future.
Don't worry too much if you are unsure about what classification an image is, if you think it is on the edge. Each image will be classified multiple times and we will amalgamate everyones answer to see which best fits.
These pictures have all been submitted by visitors to Machrie Moor. Whilst we have tried to orientate all of them, there may have been some we have missed. If this is the case, don't worry! Just try to classify it as you see fit.
We will post any results, blogs or articles on our website and instagram page , @monumentmonitor.
Yes we do! Send us any photos of Machrie Moor to submissions@monumentmonitor.co.uk. Please make sure they don't include any faces, as we cannot include these in our database.
