What is the White Party Archives project?
White Party Archives is a crowdsourcing initiative by the Miami AIDS Memorials Project to identify individuals in photographs from the annual White Party fundraiser held at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami from 1985 to 2010. This project supports the Miami AIDS Memorials Project in preserving and commemorating Miami’s HIV/AIDS history.

How can I participate in the project?
You can participate by selecting one of the following workflows:

  • Identify People: Help recognize and name individuals in the photographs.
  • Tag Year and Theme: Determine the year and/or theme of each photograph based on visual cues and context.

Why is this project important?
This project is crucial for preserving the history of the White Party and its role in HIV/AIDS advocacy. By identifying individuals and contextual details in the photographs, we can create a richer historical record and honor the contributions of those involved.

What if I don't recognize anyone in the photographs?
Even if you don't recognize anyone, you can still contribute by helping to tag other details such as the year, theme, and setting of the photographs. Every bit of information helps!

What happens to the information I provide?
The information collected through this project will enrich the White Party's historical archive and support research, education, and community engagement efforts related to HIV/AIDS history.

How will identifying information be used?
Identifying information will be used to enhance the metadata associated with the photographs in an online digital repository, making the collection more accessible and useful for researchers, educators, and the community.

How can I request to have my identity or someone else's identifying information taken down?
We understand and respect privacy concerns. If you do not want your identity or someone else's identifying information to be publicly available, you can request to have it taken down by contacting us at miamiaidsmemorials@gmail.com. There will also be takedown information on the individual record. Please provide specific details about the photograph and the identifying information you wish to have removed.
