The White Party was Miami's iconic HIV/AIDS fundraising event, held annually from 1985 to 2010 at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Preserving the history of this event is crucial to honoring and documenting local HIV/AIDS activism. The Miami AIDS Memorials Project, in collaboration with Florida International University (FIU) and the World AIDS Museum and Educational Center, is working to safeguard this history. You can contribute by helping to tag photographs from the White Party and support this effort to honor and remember those affected.

The White Party was an annual fundraiser held at the historic Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami from 1984 to 2010. Established to support HIV/AIDS awareness and fundraising for community health organizations, the event quickly became a landmark occasion for advocacy, education, and celebration.
The photographs in this project were generously donated by Shed Boren, an FIU Professor of Social Work and a dedicated advocate for those living with HIV/AIDS in South Florida. These images are now part of the collection at the World AIDS Museum and Educational Center in Ft. Lauderdale.
Our goal is to recognize the people in these photos, to enhance the historical documentation, and to pay tribute to those who played a part in the battle against HIV/AIDS. The inaugural White Party, launched in 1984, was coordinated by Frank Wager and Jorge Suarez. Initially, it started as a modest fundraising occasion for the Health Crisis Network, but it evolved into a significant week-long sequence of events, drawing in celebrities and supporters from around the globe.
This project is part of the Miami AIDS Memorials Project, an initiative to raise the visibility of Miami’s HIV/AIDS history through community-engaged planning and commemorative works. Your participation in this project will assist us in preserving the memories and stories of the individuals who attended and supported the White Party. Your efforts will contribute to documenting the impact of HIV/AIDS on the community and ensuring that the legacy of these events and the people involved is not forgotten.
Join us in this important work and become a part of the effort to commemorate Miami's HIV/AIDS history. Your contributions will be invaluable in making this historical archive accessible and meaningful for future generations.
