This is a really exciting opportunity for aspiring conservationists, or anyone who just loves this iconic bird, to help us learn more about the future of the species. Not only will you be counting penguins in Antarctica, you’ll also be helping researchers to accurately monitor penguin populations in the future – from space!

About Polar Observatory

Emperor penguins are a beloved mascot of Antarctica. However, the species is in trouble – the sea ice they live on is melting due to climate change, and they need your help! Scientists are trying to develop better ways of monitoring how the colony populations are changing to be able to better protect the penguins. They took a trip to Antarctica to photograph an Emperor penguin colony on Snow Hill island from drones. Now, they need your help to count the adults and chicks in the photos.
