This project has been built using the Zooniverse Project Builder but is not yet an official Zooniverse project. Queries and issues relating to this project directed at the Zooniverse Team may not receive any response.
At the moment, you can classify if there are bird calls in 5 or 10 seconds of audio. Using your classifications and machine learning algorithms we will be able to automatically detect bird calls. Soon we will provide more workflows where you will be able to identify specific bird calls and validate computer-classified calls.

Help us identifying calls of Ngā manu (New Zealand birds) recorded in over 20,000 hours of audio around New Zealand!
Your identifications will help us building machine learning models that automatically classify the bird species of Ngā manu tātākī (chatter or cacophony made by New Zealand birds). Based on these calls, we will be able to understand where different bird species are and how to best guide conservation efforts to revive their sounds.
Together we can bring native bird species back to New Zealand cities and towns including the coolest little capital in the world!
Please note that management of wildlife in New Zealand includes: removing invasive weeds, trapping invasive animals, planting native vegetation, and providing artificial nesting stations. Your contributions will be stored on the Zooniverse server. For detailed information about the data collected and ways to remove it, please refer here.
