Coordinator


Cristiana Vieira
Curator of the Herbarium (PO) of the Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto (MHNC-UP).
D. in Biology from FCUP, has been Curator of the Herbarium of the University of Porto of MHNC-UP since 2015. With experience in both field and laboratory work, she is currently responsible for the scientific and material curation of national and international botanical collections of the Polytechnic Academy and FCUP. She also collaborates and supervises works related to the conservation, ecology and diversity of flora, and participates in educational and promotional events for the MHNC-UP and its collections.

Team Members

Rui Costa Miranda
Volunteer of the MHNC-UP.
Holding a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Mathematical Engineering from the University of Porto, Rui is currently pursuing a PhD in Mathematics and Applications, as part of a joint doctoral program with University of Santiago de Compostela and the collaboration of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Rui’s parallel interests in science communication and preservation of cultural heritage motivated him to collaborate on this project at the MHNC-UP.


Zita Silva
Collaborator of the MHNC-UP.
After completing her Master's degree in Architecture at the Universidade do Minho in 2013, Maria Zita de Assunção Pereira da Silva began working as a host in some of the most important cultural institutions in the city of Porto. She is currently a technical assistant at MHNC-UP.


Teresa Castro
Guide at MHNC-UP.
Teresa has a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Nursing, and has been working with MHNC-UP as an Operations Assistant since 2018.


Luísa Mendonça
Staff member of the MHNC-UP.
With a Bachelor's degree in Gestão do Património from the Escola Superior de Educação - Instituto Politécnico do Porto, Luísa has been working at the MHNC-UP since 2018. She is currently working as a technical assistant at MHNC-UP.


Maria João Fonseca
Head of Communication at the MHNC-UP.
With a background in animal biology and biology teaching, and a PhD in science education and communication, Maria João Fonseca is currently Head of Communication at the MHNC-UP and Director of the Hall of Biodiversity - Ciência Viva Centre. She is responsible for the general administration, coordination and promotion of science communication and outreach activities. She has been and is currently involved in the design and evaluation of formal and informal educational activities, teacher training and outreach initiatives for all types of audiences.

Filipe Bastos
Collaborator of the MHNC-UP.
Filipe Ferreira Bastos holds a Bachelor's Degree in History and a Master's Degree in Medieval Studies, both from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. His work has focused mainly on Latin-Iberian medieval chronicles, the representation of the Kingdom of Portugal and the western peninsula. He worked until 2022 as a technical assistant at the MHNC-UP and actively collaborated in the digitisation and cataloguing of documents for this project.
